I’ve wanted to do a cooking class in Thailand for forever; Thai food is my favourite cuisine, I can’t figure out what the hell I’m doing in my little hotpot, so it makes sense to get some professional help. Plus it got Joe, Megan and I out of the tropical storm that is ravaging Bangkok right now so it was a win win situation.
I booked us in for a half day Thai vegetarian cooking class at the May Kaidee cooking school on Khao San Road and it was ah-mazing- so much better than I had anticipated. My last cooking class was one in the vegetarian society HQ in the UK and it was the best thing ever, so this one had a lot to live up to, but it definitely fulfilled my expectations. As a class of 6 the set up was kind of like a family dinner; we were given a recipe book, we watched as our trainer cooked up some dishes, we all made dishes as a team and then we were set loose to try out some recipes; or in Megan’s case go completely rogue and just cook tomato water each time (I have no clue what she was doing there).
Our trainer was hilarious and made the whole experience; he was funny, had great banter, laughed along with us and taught us Thai songs and traditional dances whilst cooking.
If you need a way to spend a drizzly afternoon in Bangkok; this is the way to do it, stuffing your face and having a great time doing it. We ate; Peanut sauce, spring rolls, chilli paste, Tom Yum soup, Massaman curry, Pad Thai, Papaya Salad and Mango sticky rice. Now excuse me while I curl up into a ball, hold my fat belly and go to sleep.
Much love from wherever I am xx
