6 months ago, I quit my job, sold all of my things, packed my backpack and set off on a trip around South East Asia. 6 countries and countless amazing memories later, it’s all come to a close. No longer am I looking at a map or hunting for bargain flight prices to see where I will end up next and no longer am I waking up wondering where I’ll be tomorrow. I know where I’ll be tomorrow…in a classroom. I am currently on the stunning island of Koh Chang in Southern Thailand, training to be an ESL (English as a second language) teacher.
I have just completed the first week of my three week course, and although challenging, I honestly did not expect to enjoy it as much as I do. Becoming a TEFL teacher was more of an investment, a business opportunity for me- I pass my course and then I can teach English as a foreign language pretty much anywhere in the World. This means that I don’t even have to go home in between my travels anymore, I can literally go wherever I like and earn money whilst there. Sounds like a dream come true for me. However, this week has been a LOT of fun, I’ve learnt so much in a short space of time; I feel as if teaching may be something I want to get in to long term.
The thing that makes this TEFL heaven course has simply got to be the people with whom I’m sharing this experience. I couldn’t have wished for a better bunch and we already feel like a strange, dysfunctional family. I also feel like I’m going to adopt a weird American accent so be prepared for that!
Wanna do what I’m doing? What a great idea! I’ll write a more detailed post on how, what, where, and why later but for now check out TEFL Heaven’s website here!
