Back in Bangkok

Being back in Bangkok feels very strange to say the least. It’s as if we’ve gone off to explore the world and am now back home. It’s like our whole trip has been leading up to this moment- we’ve made little plans, had no idea where we would be from day to day, however Bangkok in mid-April has always been set in stone… and now we’re here. I don’t think I’m ready to be here yet. The reason Bangkok has always been set in stone is because Joe and I are completing a course to become English teachers and we will live in Thailand for the foreseeable future doing just that. It’s pretty scary and pretty daunting that it’s actually here. Teaching has always been a pipe dream, something that will happen in the future but we don’t need to think about it right now. Well it’s now time to think about it because it’s here and no longer just around the corner. We no longer have no responsibilities, we can no longer pick up our bags and move to the next place- this is the final place. Shit.

So I’ve been running around like a headless chicken trying to get things sorted, thankfully Bangkok was our first stop on this trip so I don’t feel like a tourist. I know where basic things are and I don’t need to queue up like cattle to see the Grand Palace or the Reclining Buddha. So in between being dazed and confused about this whole situation, Joe and I have done some (Free!) cultural things to give our heads a rest; we’ve been to some pretty cool night markets, enjoyed Songkran in Silom and visited Bangkok’s Art & Culture centre. It’s also worth noting that we’re preeeeettty skint right now which is why we haven’t been up to anything crazily exciting.

The next time I talk to you I’ll be in Koh Chang completing my TEFL Heaven training. Jesus. It’s come around in the blink of an eye, time to become a responsible (mostly) teacher. I’ll let you know how that goes…

One of the things I loved about Bangkok was the street food. And I just heard they’re not going to allow street stalls anymore! A bit sad 🙁
